LUND EASTER CRUISE APRIL 2007 (From the Nautical News May 2007)

Yet another great Easter at Lund. No wild winds or stormy skies pouring rain down upon the Comox Club’s hardy members this year.
We had a total of eighteen boats moored between the Government and Lund Hotel docks. Forty-six adults and 2 children attended the weekend and some even arrived on the Thursday. Eight new members joined us this year and we hope they enjoyed themselves.
All had arrived in time for Friday’s Happy Hour at 5:00 on the dock. John Walker, however, just made it by the skin of his teeth, as he arrived just as the first wine bottle was opened. Great timing John! Thanks again to Tom and Peter for making the wine. As always it was excellent, although Tom seemed to be trying to keep it all at his moorage spot on the Lund hotel dock. Tom and his co-conspirators came up with all sorts of excuses to justify their decision to make a stand:
-The wine would get too stirred up carrying it over
-It was very heavy
-They had the majority of boats.
-They were very comfy and already had their chairs out
-It was too far to walk
-They were tired from the long journey back from Desolation Sound

Rumour has it that the Fleet Captain laid the law down and insisted that the wine and appy’s come to the dock he was moored at. Who knows, but the whole crew; albeit reluctantly arrived at the Government Dock with the WINE and appy’s intact.
The weather was great without a drop of rain and we were able to sit outside until around eight consuming wine, eating appy’s and trying to take part in 48 different conversations.

The buffets were excellent this year. Craig and his wife, the owners of Dolphin Insurance, supplied many, many carafes of wine at dinner.

The games as always were well run and loads of fun. Thanks to Gary Campbell for organizing the games, and to his trusty helpers the Scotts and Fitzsimmons. The chicken chucking game was a great new addition to our fun and again thanks to Gary for introducing us to this challenging game. (well, some of us were challenged!)
The predicated log race was won by Bill Sherwood. Unfortunately, this announcement was met with a few boos as Bill Sherwood and son/partner Don won a prize for Chicken Chucking, Booce and Ladder Golf. Did we forget anything ?
Not too many participants for the Easter Egg hunt (perhaps the free wine at supper??) Verburght’s grandchildren, the Harpers, and the Leightons were the big winners this year.
Thanks again to Ted Harper for his quiz. Lots of fun for all.
As always our Easter Bunny Avril and her helper Marg Trace started off Easter Sunday morning with champagne and orange juice. Many thanks.
Ray did a great job of being the MC and was able to pass on his treasured trophy the “Horses Aft” to Fred Sankey. Fred as with all the previous winners was absolutely thrilled to receive it and despite trying to claim that it was not his fault that he was flying the wrong flag finally decided to accept this coveted award.

Fleet Captain Richard
